This filtration process through filter cartridges is designed for surface water, groundwater and water with heavy metal pollutants, boron, radionuclides, salt, and high total hardness. These contaminants cannot be effectively removed by membrane technologies due to their small size or their chemical interaction in the water. A combination of different filter cartridges connected into series can help remove several problematic contaminants. We are focusing on regenerable filter cartridges with a lifetime of several years. The filtration units can be applied to locations with anthropogenic or natural contaminants in the water sources that are being used for drinking or agriculture. They can be applied in remote areas due to their robustness, remote monitoring potential and full automatization. The filtration units have very low energy and chemicals consumption as well as waste production volumes.

Manganese and Iron removal unit

Description of the technology:

Multiple steps of filtration through special sorbents remove suspended particles, bacteria, viruses, iron and manganese. The ion-exchange process subsequently reduces total water hardness. The sorbents and ionex are re-generable, thus increasing their lifetime by several years. In addition, the unit also ensures pH adjustment of the water. Lastly, hygienisation with a UV lamp or chlorine is the final step to maximize water safety and quality.

Heavy metals removal unit

Water sources with significant anthropogenic or natural pollutants – arsenic, microbiological pollutants (bacteria), organics, total hardness; e.g. contaminated surface or ground water.

Description of the technology:

Multiple steps of filtration through special sorbents remove suspended solids, bacteria, viruses and arsenic. The special sorbent AsMet is a close-to-natural material being added into two towers, which are connected into series and the feed water is channelled through them. When concentration of arsenic at the outlet of the first tower exceeds a specific value, the system only operates the second tower, whereas the first tower regenerates. The sorbents are regenerable and their lifetime can reach several years. Hygienisation with a UV lamp is the last step to ensure water safety and quality. Saturated sorbents are collected and then regenerated by a local technician with NaOH and NaClO. If high level of boron removal is desired, regeneration is performed every 7 days.

Description of the technology:

Multiple steps of filtration through special sorbents remove suspended solids, bacteria, viruses, arsenic and boron. Special sorbents Katalox Light and Catalytic Carbon are close-to-natural materials added into two towers, which are connected into series and the feed water is channelled through them. An additional 30% recirculation is performed for enhanced boron removal. The sorbents are regenerable and their lifetime can reach several years. Hygienisation with a UV lamp is the last step to ensure water safety and quality.
